Koforidua Inundated With Floods

Heavy floods after a three-hour downpour in parts of Koforidua, in the New Juaben municipality, has alienated many communities.

Suburbs like Nsukwao, Kenkey-Factory, Asokore-Kuma, Abrewa-Nkwanta, Highways were hardly hit whiles the floods inundated the main Koforidua-Suhum, Koforidua-Asokore, Koforidua-Asokore-Kuma roads.

When GNA visited some of the affected areas, some residents were still trapped in their homes as the water had still not resided whiles others were trying to salvage some household properties.

Some of the residents who spoke on condition of anonymity said they supported the Member of Parliament for New Juaben North, Nana Adjei-Boateng’s call for the intervention of the national security to help bring order to the area.

They said for the past four-weeks, many houses had been submerged in floods after the rains which coincidentally occur on Sundays resulting in loss of properties.

Opanin Kwadwo Osei, a landlord, said he has asked all the tenants in his house to look for another place, to prevent any unexpected disaster.

He said a collapsed wall in the vicinity was a divine intervention because it allowed the waters, which had reached the window level of the house, to move into the storm drain behind adding that ‘ I am afraid of what will happen in the next rains hence my request for every tenant to quit.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Security council (REGSEC) has directed all assembly members in the municipality to organise a special cleaning exercise on Saturday, to de-silt gutters and choked drains as a measure to allow free flow of water after the rains.
