UMaT asked to open more campuses nationwide.

Awulae Angama Tu-Agyan II, Omanhene of Gwira Traditional Area, has called for the expansion of the University of Mines (UMaT), Tarkwa in the Western Region. He noted that certain public universities in the country have satellite campuses spread within a particular region or outside the region to enhance its reach among the population. Awulae Tu-Agyan made the call at the second ordinary meeting of the Regional House of Chiefs in Sekondi On Monday. According to him, UMaT could have it campus even in the northern part of the region adding: "this would help children within the region to take up courses that would help them on the job market especially, within the region". He said chiefs were ready to release large tracts of land for education purpose and therefore urged the management of UMaT to make every effort to spread throughout the nation. He asked churches and organizations within the region to support the expansion process of UMaT with financial and technical assistance to spread educational opportunities in and outside the region for all Ghanaians. "Now that we have oil, it is up to parents, guardians, chiefs and leaders of the region to ensure that the education of the children are taken seriously to enable them gain employment in this sector", he pointed out. Awulae Attiburukusu, the President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, said the house would deliberate on the issue for the socio-economic development of the region.
