In the quest to boost the development of the Fanteakwa area, President John Mahama yesterday announced the initiation of an electrification project for 29 communities in the area.
The project is expected to connect the communities to the national power grid towards promoting agriculture, trade and general economic activities in the Fanteakwa North and South Districts.
According to President Mahama, Parliament had approved the loan arrangement for the project and the government was awaiting the Chinese loan grantor to advance the funds for the project to commence.
Announcing this at a rally at Ahomahomaso in the Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern Region as part of his campaign tour of the region, he said the project was one of the priority activities of the government.
In addition to the electrification project, he said the district would also host one of the Farmer Service Centres to be established across the country with the aim of providing support to farmers to enhance agricultural production.
The Centres, which the government hopes to use to revolutionise agricultural production, would offer farm inputs and extension services to assist farmers to improve their yield.
The President also assured the people of the area of efforts to rehabilitate all roads that are in poor conditions in the district.
He said although a lot of projects had been undertaken in the area, the government was determined to do more, promising that the district would have its fair share of development.
He called for the support of the chiefs and people of the area to enable the government to execute the development plans for the district by voting to retain the NDC government in power.
As part of his rounds yesterday, President Mahama inaugurated the 15th Community Day Senior High School at Kwawu Fodoa, and addressed mini rallies at Anyinam and Osino.
