Prez Mahama Urges Akyems To Vote Massively For NDC

President John Dramani Mahama has urged the people of Akyem to ignore the age-old J.B.Danquah tradition and vote massively for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 7 polls.

Regrettably, he said, the name of Dr J.B. Danquah had dictated the direction of voting in Akyem land, much to the disadvantage of the NDC.

However, he said, the NDC in government had never failed Akyem.

President Mahama said this when he addressed party supporters at a mini rally at Akyem Mansa in the Ofoase Ayirebi Constituency of the Eastern Region.

President Mahama was continuing his campaign tour of the region after a break at the weekend.

Dr Danquah, who was a founder member of the United Gold Coast Convention  (UGCC), hailed from Kyebi.

The NDC has set the Agenda 50-50 quota; seeking to share the votes equally with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the election.

Hundreds meet President

At Akyem Mansa, hundreds of supporters of the NDC poured out to welcome President Mahama.

He preceded his address with a big thank you to the supporters for coming out in their numbers to show their support for the party.

With the crowd shouting “JM Toaso”, the President responded by urging them to go out in their numbers to cast their ballots to retain him and the NDC in office.

The President said the NDC had never been vindicated in government as demonstrated in the fair and equitable distribution of national resources.

He said quality health and education occupied centre place in national development.

That explained why the government continued to place emphasis on those sectors.

President Mahama said the NDC government had been faithful to cocoa farmers as various interventions in the cocoa sector were meant to  benefit farmers and the cocoa industry.

He assured the people that the government would not fail farmers under any circumstances.

The General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, said there was no way Nana Akufo-Addo could beat President Mahama in the election.

He said the performance of the NDC was phenomenal and the signs were clear that the NPP would be kept in opposition.
