EC/Nduom Round 2: These Needless Tactics Won't Help . . .

Atik Mohammed has cautioned the Electoral Commission over its court appeal against the Progressive People's Party flagbearer's qualification for the Presidential race, stating categorically that "these needless tactics won't help".

According to him, the EC is supposed to be a partner to the political parties but it appears the Commission is rather being antagonistic in their approach towards the parties.

Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Atik Mohammed expressed worry over the EC's logic to file an appeal to challenge the High Court ruling asking it to allow the PPP to correct their nomination form errors.

Atik Mohammed shared an opinion that the court ruling should have been a wake-up call for the EC to assess its relationship with the political parties.

To him, the Commission should focus on helping the parties to correct the anomalies in their nomination forms instead of seeking an appeal.

Is it the case that we want to remove some people by all means or we want to say that we want to apply the law to the letter? Because there are several laws or electoral laws that you’ve not implemented. So, if it’s about strict application of electoral laws; there are some laws that ought to be implemented within some time frames but you didn’t do it,” Atik critiqued the EC.
