Zoomlion Ghana limited, waste management experts has joined forces with the NADMO office at Nii Ashaley Zonal Council office-Adentan to undertake a clean-up exercise with the Ogbojo Market Women (Association) at  New market social welfare as part of initiatives aimed at inculcating good sanitary practices among the public.

The exercise brought together sanitation workers of Zoomlion, staff of NADMO and residents to desilt drains and sweep the market and its surroundings.

The Zonal Coordinator of NADMO, Mr Benedictus Adzogbley said the aim of the exercise is to educate and demonstrate NADMO’s preparedness for attending to issues concerning environmental health and safety in our community.

He reiterated the need for the residents to keep their environment clean to avert flooding as was witnessed recently in our parts of the cities. “This will help reduce the constraints the organization goes through with acquiring logistics for displaced residents and also safeguard the nation’s purse.”

Mrs Gladys Osei, the Assembly Woman of the Ogbojo electoral area who participated in the exercise also bemoaned the rate at which residents dispose refuse indiscriminately and especially that of market centers is alarming. She advised residents to support Zoomlion in their effort to keep their surroundings and communities clean and healthy.

A Senior Communications Officer of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Mr Daniel Ohene Obeng said their challenge in the waste service delivery is attitudinal change and enforcement of bye laws. According to him, Zoomlion can deploy all their logistics to the field but without a change in attitude their effort is meaningless.

He said the company has embarked on various sensitization campaigns at market centers, lorry stations, churches, mosques and some educational institutions all to promote good environmental sanitation practices.
