Police Invite Nii Lantey For Questioning

The Police have invited the Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye for questioning on the clashes that occurred between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Jamestown on Tuesday.

The clashes reportedly left two persons critically injured and led to the arrest of three persons who have since been granted bail by the police.

In a Citi News interview, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, ASP Effia Tenge,noted that reports from the clashes alleged the involvement of Mr. Vanderpuye, hence the invitation.

“There have been several reports about his involvement in the said disturbances and as a result of that, police have made efforts in inviting him [Mr. Vanderpuye] for him to also give a further statement,” ASP Tenge explained.

Aside the invitation of the MP, ASP Tenge also said investigations will continue as the police suspected more culprits were in hiding.

“After the said the incident, the police made arrest of certain young men that we believe were involved in said disturbances. The police investigation indicated that they were however implicated and as a result of that the police has so far granted them bail and as and when we need them, we won’t hesitate in calling them to also answer questions.”

“We however believe that those who were actually involved have gone into hiding, but she arrested “we have intensified our investigation to ensure that those people are arrested,” she said.

Allegations

Following the clashes, Mr. Vanderpuye alleged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate for Odododiodio, Nii Lante Bannerman, masterminded the attacks on NDC supporters that escalated into the clashes a rally at Jamestown in the constituency.

According to him, Mr Bannerman had organised some young men to attack his team members with guns, machetes and other weapons.

On the other hand, Mr. Vanderpuye was also accused of physical assault by his NPP contender. Mr. Bannerman alleged that Mr. Vanderpuye accosted and attacked him at his residence in James Town on Wednesday morning.
