Mamprugu Youth Chiefs Embrace NPP

Over 200 youth chiefs in Mamprugu in the Northern Region have thrown their weight behind the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, disclosing that they have become disillusioned with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

They made this known at a press conference they held last week during which they called on other parts of the Northern Region to do same.

They said they are unhappy with NDC for neglecting their part of the country in the distribution of the national cake.

“Over the past eight years, the NDC government has continuously neglected the five constituencies in the four districts of Mamprugu. Most of our roads are still in a very poor and deplorable state, the most noticeable being Bindi to Bunkrugu, Walewale to Langbinsi, Nalerigu to Gbintiri, Nakpanduri to Nasuani, Nakpanduri to Bawku, Walewale to Yagba , Nasia to Janga, Walewale to Wungu and many others. Our clinics and hospitals are in a sorry state and farmers are increasingly getting worse off because the increased burden of acquiring fertiliser for farming and school fees for their children,” they said.

The state of unemployment among the youth, they said, has become a worry in all homes and threatening security in the Mamprugu Kingdom. The cement factory in Gbangu-daa that was supposed to commence in 2009 has been abandoned by the NDC government, they added.

They recalled how in 2013 the people of Nakpanduri and Nalerigu were raped and brutalised by the military and their properties destroyed for which no compensation, they pointed out, was given them.
The 200 strong youth chiefs said they have come to a conclusion that the NDC which they have for long voted for does not have the welfare of Mamprugu at heart.
