Commercial Drivers Advised To Be Cautious

Emmanuel Nii Ankrah, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has urged commercial drivers to be cautious especially as Christmas approaches.

He asked them to observe road traffic regulations during and after the Christmas and the New Year festivities in order to save lives and property.

Nii Ankrah gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after swearing-in newly elected Zongo Junction-UTC Taxi branch executive of the Union in Accra.

The executive, who would hold office for four years, are Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, Chairman, Mr Samuel Kofi Oduro, Vice-Chairman, Mr Joseph Benyin, Secretary, Mr William Addae and Stephen Okai, First and Second Trustees respectively.

Nii Ankrah urged the drivers to avoid traffic offences such as unnecessary over-taking, driving above approved speed limits, over-loading, drunk-driving and the use of poorly maintained vehicles adding that they must observe the mandatory rest period.

“These are some of the wrongdoings that must be avoided to prevent accidents on the road,” he said.

He expressed the hope that through collaborative efforts by all social partners the carnage on the road would be minimised.

He wished all commercial drivers a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance.
