Paapa Yankson Rewarded After Abandoning Hospital Bed For Stage

Ghanaian highlife legend, Paapa Yankson, may have flouted hospital regulations and irked doctors when he left his hospital bed to mount the stage at the Polo Grounds for the first edition of the ‘Bottles & Bands’ festival over the weekend – but that action could have paid off!

“I had to leave the hospital and come here to perform for you, and it’s all because of the love I have for you,” the wheelchair-bound legend told the crowd.

His gesture did not go unnoticed as several corporate firms and individuals presented a total amount of Ghc50, 000 to aid the veteran musician take care of his medical bills and related expenses.

ANFD International (suppliers of FAB ENERGY DRINKS), Ultimate Car Port, UniBank, Capital Express were some of the companies who donated to the singer.

At 72, Paapa Yankson, is unable to walk and uses the wheelchair for mobility, however, that setback did little to his stagecraft as he serenaded the crowd to some of his hit songs.

‘Bottles and Bands 2016’, which is an EIB initiative, was held at the Accra Polo Grounds November 19 and saw stellar performances from Kojo Antwi, EL, Akoo Nana and Efya.
