Chief Arrested

The Chief of Ejisu Besease in the Ashanti Region, Nana Nyanin Nyarko, was arrested b the Ejisu Juaben Municipal Police Command on Sunday afternoon and placed in custody overnight. The 59- year-old teacher was arrested for possessing a locally manufactured gun without authorization and threatening a group of young men in the town with the said gun. Reports reaching newsmen in Accra indicate that the young men, numbering about 20, were in a shop watching a football match on television when Nana Nyarko suddenly appeared on the scene and threatened them with the gun. He was said to have pointed the gun at the people without provocation, threatening to shoot and kill anyone who dared made attempts to move. Sources say some of the people mustered the courage to push the 59-year-old chief aside and proceeded to escape through an open door. They then rushed to lodge a complaint with the Ejisu Juaben Municipal Police Command who promptly arrested Nana Nyarko. Daily Guide learnt that after his arrest the police found two live ammunitions in Nana Nyarko�s pocket and another two in the gun. When the police found that Nana Nyarko owned the locally manufactured gun he had used to threaten the group without a permit, he was charged and placed in custody overnight. Information reaching the paper indicates that the police charged Nana Nyarko on two counts of possessing a gun without authority and threatening a group of people with it. The police, Daily Guide gathered, quickly before the Ejisu Juaben Municipal Circuit court on Monday morning. He was granted bail in the sum of GH�5000 with two sureties to reappear on November 4. When contacted, the Ejisu Juaben Divisional Police Commander, ASP Baffour Awuah confirmed the story and noted that the police would be in court to argue its case as directed.
