ELECTION 2016: Voting Begins Shortly As Ghana Decides Today
Today is the D-day; the die is about to be cast...
With barely half an hour to go for voting which begins at 7:00 some anxious voters, eager to be the first to cast their ballot, formed queues with chairs, stones, and any object they could lay hands on.
Officials of the Electoral Commission have begun setting up for today's polls.
Over fifteen million voters in 28,992 polling stations will be choosing which of the seven presidential candidates should go to the flagstaff house.
The seven presidential candidates are Ivor Kobina Greenstreet of the Convention People’s Party; Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings of the National Democratic Party; and sitting President; John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress.
The rest are Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom of Progressive People’s Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party; Dr. Edward Mahama of the People’s National Convention; and an Independent Candidate Jacob Osei Yeboah.
All of these candidates are confident of winning; President Mahama is hoping to be given another four years to continue ruling the country and three time Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo Addo is asking for change.
The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been the major political parties in the country with huge supporting base over the years. Is this history going to change? Is John Mahama going to continue as President or will Nana Addo be given his wish for change?
Meanwhile, ahead of today's election, special voting took place on Thursday 1st and Sunday 4th December, 2016 respectively for security officers and journalist across the country.
