Voter turnout in the early hours of voting has been impressive across the Ashanti Region.
It has additionally been smooth and peaceful with no reported confusion at any of the 5,190 polling centres in the 47 constituencies.
Some voters in the region began queuing up at the centres, five clear hours before voting officially started.
Except for the absence of validation stamps, which delayed the process in few places, everything has so far gone well.
At the Juaso SHS School ‘A’ in the Asante-Akim South Constituency where 528 people are expected to vote 56 had cast their ballot, when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) got to the place, an hour into the exercise.
Forty (40) out of the voter population of 581 at the Juaso Post Office centre had voted.
In the Afigya-Kwabre, Bosomtwe, Asokwa and Adansi South Constituencies, things were not any different.
At the Church of Pentecost Central Assembly in the Adansi South, 101 out of the 650 registered voters had voted, when Reporters of the Agency covering the polls under the “GNA Tracks Election 2016,” project, funded by Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL), the nation’s foremost indigenous oil marketing company, and CIMG 2015 Petroleum Company of the Year, visited at 0910 hours.
One hundred and seven (107) had voted at the Esereso D/A Primary School with 157 having exercised their franchise at the Esereso D/A East.
The two centres have a combined voter population of 1,347.
At the Feyiase Clinic ‘A’, the Presiding Officer, Cynthia Kwanin, told the GNA that 114 people out of the expected 807 had voted at 0930 hours.
One hundred and forty-one (141) had exercised their franchise at the Feyiase Clinic ‘B’ where 781 people would be voting.
At Ebom in the Afigya-Kwabre, 135 registered voters had cast their ballot at 0942 hours.
