Govt To Improve NHIS Service For Customers

The Director of Administration of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Mr. Nathaniel Otoo has assured subscribers of the National Health Insurance Scheme that the NHIA is not resting on its laurels but as management, they are working assiduously to make sure they (insurance providers) are giving the best service. Speaking at the Ashiedu Keteke Mutual Health Insurance Scheme durbar held in Accra, Mr. Otoo said NHIS is one of the most important programmes government is committed to improving, hence the introduction and implementation of the one-time premium payment for members of the NHIS in the year 2010. He has therefore entreated the public to get interested in sustaining the scheme and also work hard to prevent impersonation of registered members. Mr. Otoo added that customers and service providers must prevent frivolous use of services and also serve as a watchdog over the activities of insurance providers and the scheme and also give suggestions and ideas for the improvement of the NHIS. He concluded that all Ghanaians in the various communities should work in diverse ways to support government policy relating to the NHIS. Nii Kojo Ababio (v), the James Town Mantse who sat in as the chairman of the durbar appealed to people living in Ashiedu Keteke district to embrace the NHIS wholeheartedly and also see it as a blessing and not a curse.
