Mahamas Defeat Was Inevitable - Hawa Koomson

Member of Parliament for the people of Awutu-Senya East Constituency in the Central Region, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson in addressing the media in her thanksgiving service for retaining her seat in Parliament enlisted why the various infrastructure projects did not make President Mahama victorious.

According to her, despite the fact that President Mahama targeted her Constituency with the Kasoa interchange in order to claim the Awutu-Senya East seat, it did not yield any benefit for the NDC because majority of Ghanaians placed priority on getting money in their pockets to take care of their families than the project which didn’t have direct benefit to them.

She added that “President Mahama himself said we can eat roads and bridges and of course he has done infrastructure projects in Kasoa but those projects do not have any linkage with the wellbeing of Ghanaians.”

“You have built schools but parents have to suffer to raise Ghc 500.00 cedis in order to send their wards to schools; meanwhile they don’t have jobs to pay for their wards school fees and what then is the essence of the projects if the people cannot benefit from them?...these are some of the reasons Ghanaians voted for change,” she said.

Speaking to Peacefmonline.com, the only successful candidate to win the seat twice said her victory does not come as a surprise as she relates well with everybody and always in touch with the needs of her constituents.

“The President did everything he could to snatch Awutu-Senya East seat but it did not work because I give respect to everyone in this constituency and the people know how well I relate with them; always fighting for their interest,” she stated.

She reiterated that as her party [NPP] is in power, every promise made to the people of Awutu-Senya East will be realised, especially the drainage system she promised to construct; thus plans are underway to see the best way to resolve the situation in Kasoa.
