Ghanaian Youth Have Lost Focus... - Nii Lantey Vanderpuije

Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuije says he was unable to leave any legacy for Ghanaian youth because all the youth in the country have lost focus as to what to do with their lives.

According to him, even though he accepted to head the ministry of Youth and Sports with the mindset on youth development than Sports, he realized that the youth organization is something else to plan with.

Speaking on Starr Fm with Bola Ray, Hon. Nii Lantey admitted the leaders in the country are partially responsible for the youths not being focused but added that the individual youth should be certain on the direction they want to take in life and remain focus to ensure its accomplishment.

I went to the Ministry on the concentration and a lot more on youth development than sports because sports is dynamic but the youth organization is something else. What I saw was that as a country our youth have lost focus....for example a young man told me he wants to engage in ‘Sakawa’”,

When I was growing up, even though my grandfather had wanted me to be a doctor to inherit his hospital and everything, somebody told me that from the way I speak, broadcasting will be good for me. So I had focus throughout despite the fact that my grandfather chose some subjects for me to study to become a doctor; I knew what I wanted to be in life”, he stressed.

He bemoaned that the youth and leadership training centres set up by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to develop the youth with focus on national development, patriotism and unity of purpose have been neglected.

The NDC MP for Odododiodio revealed that under his tenure as Youth and Sports Minister, plans were underway to host a three-day national jamboree with the various school scouts to share ideas and fashion out the perspectives of the youth in (December 2016), but the program coincided with University of Ghana examination timetable.

He thus assured his preparedness to assist the incoming Minister of Youth and Sports to embark on this plan to redirect the focus of the youth in the country unto the right path.
