President Nana Akufo-Addo has said he is confident his government will overcome the “major challenges” the country faces.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the Church of Pentecost Global Ministers and Wives Conference at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region, Mr Akufo-Addo said: “We have major challenges ahead of us as a country: the management of our economy, the development of our system of education and healthcare, employment that we have to find for our young people but they are challenges that can and will be overcome, I have no doubt about it, provided at all times, the beliefs that we have, as Christians, believers in the one God and in the mission of Jesus Christ on earth infuse everything that we do.”
“It is for that reason that … it continues to be my favourite passage of scripture because it is the words of Christ himself when he came on earth and I believe that it encapsulates everything that he came to teach: it is my favourite passage in the bible: ‘Not everyone who said to me Lord Lord shall enter the Kingdom of heaven except he that does the will of my father which is in heaven.’ … That should be our creed, our purpose and our goal,” Mr Akufo-Addo said.
The president also told the Christian community that they “…have a duty as citizens to make that belief count in the way in which we behave as citizens. We are a religious people, the Ghanaian people are a religious people, religion doesn’t mean just prayer and worship, it is also how you behave and act in your everyday life as a citizen, what we have to do is to make sure the beliefs that we have impact us in our everyday life; if we do that, I know that our country and our society and our nation will all be in a better place than where they are now.”
The president also thanked the leadership of the Church of Pentecost for accommodating him as well as praying for him all these years and during the 2016 election campaigns. “Apart from coming to congratulate you, I also came to thank you. Last year, January 15, I came here when you had the national meeting of pastors and their wives. I came to seek your prayers and your blessings and you gave them to me. I have no doubt that this wonderful thing that God has brought in my life and in the life of the NPP has a lot to do with the prayers and the blessings I received from you on that day.”
