Shiashi Chief Warns Civil Aviation Over Encroachment

The Chief of Shiashi in the Greater Accra Region, Nii Tetteh Opremrah, has cautioned against encroachment on Shiashi lands around the Polo grounds by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and some top shots of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) .

According to him, he and his people would not resort to violence but use all legal means to resist illegal structures on fence walls being put up by the Civil Aviation Authority, and some members of the NDC who illegally acquired the land through dubious means.

Speaking to the media at a press conference a couple of days ago, Nii Tetteh Opremrah explained that the fence walls being constructed by the Authority must be demolished as soon as possible since the said portion of the land does not belong to Civil Aviation Authority but rather the Apantse –We family.

“They have sold almost all to the NDC top-shots”

He continued that the said land was reserved by the family to construct a lorry park when the family met with Lands Commission during the negotiation of lay out in the area and that led to the construction of the Polo grounds road which leads to Spintex road.

“Where were Civil Aviation Authority then when negotiation was on going” he quizzed.

Citing a clear case in which he (Nii Tetteh Opremrah) took management of Antrak and Civil Aviation Authority to court on this same land matter when management of Antrak parked some spoilt aircraft on the land “which I won, so why are they fencing the land”.

The chief said for some time now, the people of Shiashi had “fought off” land guards and "multiplicity of spurious suits" on some of their lands.

He added that he and his people would continue to employ legal means to keep encroachers out of his jurisdiction.

"As law-abiding people, we will use all legal avenues to resist any illegal projects," he said.

Nii Tetteh Opremrah stressed that he and his elders have written numerous of letters ‘during the NDC regime for the Municipality in charge take action but failed.  He charged on the new government to order the Municpailty in charge to demolish or illegal structures before the matter gets out of hand.
