Grant To Use Acheampong Or Gyimah At Left-back Role For Black Stars

Ghana Coach Avram Grant has been working on Anderlecht winger Frank Acheampong and Orlando Pirates defender Edwin Gyimah as a possible replacement for injured Abdul Baba Rahman who has been ruled out of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Rahman is on his way back to his Club Schalke 04 for further treatment after sustaining an injury in Ghana’s opening group game against Uganda.

The defender could not last the entire duration of the game and had to be substituted in the first half after picking up what is believed could be a knee injury.

Reports emerging from the team’s camp in Port Gentil indicate Grant could rely on Acheampong and Gyimah for the left-back role in subsequent matches.

Acheampong who naturally plays on the left-wing replaced Baba Rahman in the game against Uganda.

Gyimah on the other hand is seen as a utility player at the back hence could be another option for the Israeli trainer.

This means Harrison Afful who was expected to move to the left-back role will maintain his position at right-back.

The Black Stars are preparing for their second group game against Mali on Saturday.
