Wee Smokers Take Over Doctors Bungalow In Kyebi

Staff of Kyebi Government Hospital in the East Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region are facing accommodation problems even though some bungalows have been abandoned for the past eight years in the bush.

After a tour of the area, a source at the hospital told DAILY GUIDE that a two semi-detached self-contained bungalows under construction, which have been turned into a hideout for ‘wee’ smokers and other criminals, had been neglected by the contractor due to the lack of funds.

Owing to the development, the hospital staff have resorted to renting private houses at exorbitant prices.

According to sources at the hospital, medical doctors, who have been transferred to the facility, have refused postings to the Kyebi, which is the hometown of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the seat of Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin.

Reports indicate that the hospital currently lacks a dentist due to its inability to house an expert, who has been posted to the area since last year.

The East Akim Municipal Assembly has also been accused of taking over most of the bungalows belonging to the hospital and allocating them to other institutions.

Even though hospital authorities had earlier requested for the abandoned bungalows, through the Regional Health Administrator, the contractor is said to have declined their request.

Some authorities of the facility, who pleaded anonymity, appealed to the Ministry of Health and government to, as matter of urgency, come to the aid of the hospital.
