Budget Cash and Carry Ghana Limited, an energy beverage importer and distributor, says it has recalled its 250ml Blue Jeans Energy drink from the market.
It has, therefore, called on all their distributors in the country to return the products to the company’s warehouses.
This was in compliance with the Food and Drugs Authority’s (FDA) order for a full cessation of the distribution and sale of the product across the country.
The FDA gave the order following a video that circulated on social media of an energy drink alleged to be Blue Jeans Energy Drink which appeared that the product was not the original.
Speaking at a press conference held in Accra, the Head of Legal Department of Budget Cash and Carry, George Eshun said that the company had no intention, whatsoever, to import and distribute inferior products and place their renowned brand on it.
Flanked by the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Nana Kweku Egyir Aggrey and other directors, Mr. Eshun explained that they could not meet their deadline for the Christmas, in view of delays in getting lithographically labeled Blue Jeans cans with those features.
Consequently, he said management decided to have the beverage packaged in other cans produced by the same manufacturer of Blue Jeans Energy Drink and to have a form of secondary labeling bearing their features and details, thus the wrap around sticker labels shown in the video.
The contents of the can, Mr. Eshun explained, were of the same as those on the originally designed cans and therefore not harmful.
He stated that the company had been importing the product and other top class brands of beverages with a huge patronage over the past 20 years, adding that as a responsible corporate organisation it has no intension or any motivation to import and distribute inferior products and placed their renowned brand on it.
Mr. Eshun assured the public that the company would “continue to meet its aspirations in terms of continuous supply of the product which stands tall among all energy drinks in the country”.
Nana Egyir Aggrey, on his part, assured that the company would collaborate with the FDA to ensure that the matter was resolved amicably.
