The Ashanti Regional Police Command, under the leadership of DCOP Patrick Timbillah, has been fashioning out strategic measures aimed at tackling the rampant physical assault on personnel and isolated cases of land guards in the region. The Ashanti Regional Police Commander made this statement at the 4th Commanders� Parade that the service was very much concerned about the incessant attacks on its personnel by suspected armed robbers, and said there was the need for urgent solutions to be found to the unfortunate development. DCOP Timbillah disclosed that a closed door meeting of senior police officers was going to be held to map out strategies to address the situation. The strategic meeting, according to the Police Commander, would also tackle other pertinent issues such as Community Policing, Command and Control System, Police-Public Relations, illegal Arms and Weapons, among others. He noted that the police, as a security service, needs to strengthen its internal security mechanisms to be able to sustain the confidence of the public. While acknowledging the immense role of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to reduce the rate of land litigations in the region, DCOP Timbillah noted that there have been isolated cases of land guard operations which isolated cases of land guard operations which require immediate action before they become widespread. Further to its earlier decision to embark on the �operation dragnet�, to retrieve all unlicensed weapons in the possession of private individuals, DCOP Timbillah appealed to the public to endeavor to heed to the call by the service to voluntarily hand in their unlicensed arms for licensing, in order to avoid being arrested. According to him, the police would not countenance any form of excuse after the stipulated date which expires by the 3rd November next moth adding anyone found culpable would not be spared. DCOP Timbillah also stated that the community policing programme was going to be strengthened in order to enhance security in the metropolis. Touching on the ongoing decongestion exercise, the Police Boss asked residents to comply with directives not to hawk on the pavements and also avoid any form of acts that will warrant their arrests. He said quite often, citizens only deem it fit to obey rules and regulations only when there is the presence of a police or military personnel and this he said, did not augur well for the development of society. DCOP Timbillah further charged his men to respect the rights of all citizens and remain committed to their duties. He also disclosed that the weekly Wednesday sports and games would soon be re-introduced to boost the morale of personnel and keep them physical active.
