Baba Ali, a butcher, on Friday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for attempting to commit crime; robbery and possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority.

Baba was arrested on January 21 with 13 wrappers of narcotic drug at Ayigbe Town, in Accra.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges, but was remanded by the court, presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh to reappear on February 15, for trial.

The court, however, ordered the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service to verify the age of the accused person from the Police Hospital before the next adjourned date, because he (accused) claimed to be 17 years.
Prosecuting, Chief Superintendent of Police, Duuti Tuaruka, told the court that the complainant was a trader residing at Madina while the accused person is a butcher and resided at the Agbogbloshie Market.

He said on January 21, at about 2320 hours at Ayigbe Town near the International Central Gospel Church, the accused person attempted to rob one Jibril Yussif but with the help of some good Samaritans he (accused) was over-powered and arrested after fierce resistance.

The prosecution said when he was sent to the police station, his bag was thoroughly searched and 13 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, two pairs of scissors, one dagger knife, dresses, and Omo were found in it.

During investigations Baba admitted ownership of all the items with the exception of the 13 wrappers of dried leaves.
Chief Superintendent Tuaruka said the accused person also told the police that it belonged to one Innocent, but failed to lead the police for his arrest.
