Countryman Songo Calls On Prez Akufo-Addo To Disband GFA Administration

Renowned Sports Presenter, Patrick Osei Agyemang, popularly called Countryman Songo has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intervene in the country's sports sector.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Countryman Songo appealed to the President to add his voice to the numerous calls on the President and Executives of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to resign from their posts.

The usual politicking on the award-winning show gave way to football on Monday as panel members drawn from the sports sector discussed a "Postmortem of AFCON 2017; vis-a-vis the Black Stars' Performance".

Contributing to the show, Songo was of the firm belief that the GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi has failed to steer affairs for the Black Stars to win trophies.

He recounted that for over 12 years of Kwesi Nyantakyi's administration, the Black Stars have not clinched the ultimate in the African Nations Cup tournament.

"He has failed woefully"; Countryman Songo blurted out, hence stressing that President Nyantakyi should not be allowed to hold another election before he exits office.

“If you leave them to go and vote, they’re the same caucus. They’re the same animal farm ruling. They’re the same friends and cronies. The same gang, so they will go unopposed for all the posts if you leave them to vote because it’s an association . . . the same thing will occur that they’ll vote for themselves. They have to go. All that they can do is what they’ve done,” he said.

But Spokesperson for the FA, Ibrahim Saani Daara, sharply disagreed.

Contributing to the discussion via phone, he opined that the President Nyantakyi's administration has worked hard and deserves to remain in office.

Saani Daara told Kwami Sefa Kayi that the Association has been trying and will do all it can to ensure that the national team wins trophies.

"You keep trying until you win. It's all you got to do . . . we're trying," he said.

Regarding the financing of the Black Stars, Saani Daara disclosed that the FA doesn't generate any budget for the Stars.

He said it is the Sports Ministry that brings out the budget and so the FA has no hand in the financing of the players or any related financial issue regarding the management of the team.
