Sue Ghana Police If You Have The Right Document- Charles Owusu Tells Sacked Recruits

A member of the Progressive People Party (PPP), Mr. Charles Owusu, has lashed out at the Ghana Police Service for being sleazy when it comes to recruitment.

On Friday, some 206 new recruits who were undergoing training at various police training schools were sacked from the service.

The affected recruits had either applied to join the service with forged documents or failed to meet the minimum qualification requirements for entry into the service.

Unlike the discipline instilled in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) regardless of regime changes, Mr. Charles Owusu claims other security bodies especially the Police Service, have failed to live up to expectation.

Speaking as a panel member on ATV’s Asem Yi Di Ka show, the PPP stalwart stated that “there is no way the military would recruit people who don’t qualify into their service. But with the Police serve because their head is given contract extensions by politicians, they are forced to play according to gallery to please their pay masters”.

The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, in a sweeping action since assuming office, sacked 206 recruits for failing to meet the standard academic qualifications for enlistment into the Ghana Police Service.

He is said to have instructed recruits who applied with WASSCE to be re-vetted before admission while those who submitted BECE, NVTI, NABPTEX and City and Guilds certificates are to return home.

However Mr. Charles Owusu challenged the recruits who believe they have been wrongfully dismissed to court if they have facts to purge themselves.

“If you think you have the basic requirements and you have been wrongfully sacked, just gather them and send the Ghana Police Service and the Government of Ghana to court”, he said.
