Convert $13.9m Veep Mansion Into A Hospital PPP Tells Govt

Progressive People’s Party [PPP] Policy Advisor, Kofi Asamoah-Siaw has said that the under-construction vice-president mansion should be converted into a modern hospital due to the huge spending on the ongoing project.

The PPP man noted that, the need to house the second family of the country is very important but the amount involved is 'unreasonable' for a country like Ghana.

There have been calls for an investigation into the contract and expenditure of the bungalow after Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia disclosed that the cost of the building was $13.9million.

The Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, has revealed that government may launch a full-scale audit into the contract.

But, Mr. Asamoah-Siaw is skeptical about such calls - voicing fears that any investigation will lead to nothing.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show, 'Ghana Montie', Mr Asamoah-Siaw noted that government must rather seek the welfare of Ghanaians and not politicians.

"Politicians are just caretakers and caretakers cannot enrich themselves whiles the masses are suffering. The vice president is not important than any of us. The watchmen cannot enjoy better than the owners,” he contested.

According to him, the superlative mansion when completed must be converted into a hospital to serve the country.

“We must turn the building into a hospital to beef up the health sector. Since the building is closer to 37 Military Hospital, they should use it as 37 annex,” he told host Kwesi Aboagye.

Adding that “If the vice-president wants to swim, he should go to those expensive hotels to swim there not with our money.”
