I Refused Gov't Appointment To Put Smiles On The Faces Of The Youth...! - Awuku

Sammy Awuku has expressed his gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the opportunity to serve the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', the National Youth Organizer of the ruling party confirmed that his refusal of government appointment was to allow him to serve the NPP and supposedly ensure victory for the party, come Election 2020.

He told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that it is more prestigious to work at the party headquarters than taking up a government appointment.

Though he stressed on 'Kokrokoo' that he qualifies to hold a ministerial position in the nation, he speculatively turned down the President's appointment as Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.

“After the election, the President invited me and asked which sector in government I had interest to work in. I felt I couldn’t leave my youth behind and be in government so I told the President to give me some time to think about the issue," he said adding that he returned to the President refusing to take up the role , stating "it is prestigious in government but it is also more prestigious if you help put smiles on the faces of the youth who helped you. Do you think with my enormous help during the campaign, what Ministry’s door can’t I open? I can go in. But sometimes the medicine is bitter but it is necessary.

“We must begin to prepare our minds, ourselves whiles the government is also working. And to be very honest, for us as a party; we’ll be engaging government on major policy discussions. Sometimes too, where we have to disagree with our government; we’ll disagree with our government and it is very important that you build a strong party.”
