The two carpenters who robbed an MTN mobile money transfer operator, of GH¢6,171.00 at Teshie, four days ago, were yesterday jailed a total of 41 years by the Accra Circuit Court “One”.
Elvis Omane Boamah, 33, of Teshie Tsuibleoo and Daniel Osei, 28, also of Sowutuom in the Greater Accra Region, pleaded guilty and asked the court to tamper justice with mercy.
The convicts promised the judge that they would not indulge in such anti-social acts again.
Notwithstanding their individual plea for mitigation, the judge, Mr. Aboagye Tandoh, said that their conduct was barbaric and reprehensible, as such they did not deserve mercy but a stiff punishment to serve as a deterrent to others.
The first accused, Elvis Omane Boamah, was sentenced to 21 years, in hard labour whilst his counterpart, Daniel Osei, second accused, will also serve 20 years in hard labour.
Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr. Duuti Tuaruka, prosecuting, said, that the convicts armed with a locally manufactured pistol and a dagger attacked Madam Mary Adwoa Blessing, at about 1:30pm on February 6, 2017, at Anomantu, a suburb of Teshie and robbed her of GH¢6,171.00.
He said that in their attempt to escape on a Haojue motorbike, the victim raised an alarm and two police officers who were nearby with the help of other people pursued and arrested them.
Chief Supt. Tuaruka, said that the police searched the criminals and found one locally manufactured pistol, six live cartridges, a dagger and cash of GH¢6,171.00 on them.
He said that a further search on Boamah’s room (first accused) revealed a box containing 18 65mm two-and-a-half inches trust live cartridges, three export, 32 and SAGA live cartridges.
Mr. Tandoh ordered that the weapon the convicts used in the robbery should be destroyed by the police in the presence of the Circuit Court Registrar.
