Tension Brewing In Dome Kwabenya Over Appointment Of MCE

Tensions are high in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, as some party executives have petitioned the President to appoint the constituency Mr. Robert Osei-Bonsu as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga East.

The individuals comprising 556 polling station executives, 12 electoral area coordinators and 10 constituency executives, have appended their signature to express their unequivocal support for Mr. Osei - Bonsu, as their preferred candidate for the position.

Addressing an emergency press conference held over the weekend, after presenting their petition to the appropriate quarters, the group said, “As grassroots of the party, we have consulted widely and can say on authority that the appointment of our chairman as the MCE of Ga East Municipal Assembly will receive the overwhelming endorsement of all and sundry”.

The group claimed that because of the President’s vision to develop the country through the local governance structure and especially his promise to create one factory in every district, a competent person like Mr. Robert Osei-Bosu should be his ideal pick.

“With the implementation of policies like the one million dollars per constituency and one district, one factory, there is the need for an individual with impeccable integrity as well as a demonstrable track record of achievement to oversee such initiatives and in this regard we say boldly unequivocally that our chairman stands tall,” they added.

The group claims that their actions were necessitated by characters close to the corridors of power in the constituency, who are parading an individual who is unknown to many in the constituency as the President’s nominee for the position of MCE and claim those individuals are flaunting an appointment letter purported to be issued by the Office of the President.

However, the group has issued a stern warning that they will resist any attempt by anyone to impose an MCE on them.

“We also respectively state that we will do all that is legally possible to resist the imposition of any other candidate apart from our constituency Chairman with whom we have worked with in the trenches over the years,” the group said.

The Council of Elders of the constituency have also overwhelmingly thrown their support behind the chairman, Mr Robert Osei Bonsu. Dome-Kwabenya Constituency is a model one and the second largest constituency in Ghana.

Since it was created in the year 2004, it has contributed immensely to the electoral fortunes of the New Patriotic Party as it gave the NPP over 60000 votes in the recent election. It has an enviable record of producing the current third gentleman of the land in the person of Rt. Hon.Prof. Michael Aaron Oquaye and the current Deputy Majority Leader in our current parliament, the Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo.
