Clergyman advices Christians against occultism

Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah, Chairman of the Pentecost Church, Ghana, on Sunday asked Christians to avoid occultism and adhere to the true teachings of Christ. He condemned advertisements by some pastors inviting people to come for deliverance and urged the clergy to "let the church remain the house of prayer and for winning souls." Apostle Dr Onyinah was delivering the sermon at this year's All Souls Inter-faith Service for departed members of the University of Ghana community, at the University. He said "Some pastors give strange instructions to their congregation, including the purchase of anointing oil from Israel for sanctification. Some even use oil to anoint some sensitive parts of women including their breasts and buttocks." Apostle Dr Onyinah said that some pastors were employing means to exploit their flock in order to become rich and popular. He said currently pastors who only spread the gospel were not likely to get mass following adding that the teachings and practices of some churches contradicted the Bible. Apostle Dr Onyinah said: "You must give yourself big titles and promise to pray over water, oil, candles, white handkerchiefs, salt, powder and sand among others, for people to secure Visas to travel abroad, get rich quick or meet men or women of their choices, to be in good business." He called on Christian associations such as the Christian Council of Ghana and Catholic Secretariat to help ensure sanity in churches.
