NDC MP: "Media Does Not Enjoy Total Freedom"

The NDC MP for Ablekuma South, Hon. Fritz Baffour, says even though the media enjoys a lot of freedom in the country, in reality the media is not free due to economic reasons. Fritz Baffour noted that in a situation where the media has to depend on government Agencies, Ministries and Departments for advertisements in order to earn revenue, the media will have no option than to avoid criticizing government. He concluded that the media can be totally free when it is financially independent. He made this observation at a training programme being organized for the Ghanaian Parliamentary Press Corps and the Nigerian Parliamentary Press Corps through video conference simultaneously at Accra and Abuja. Mr. Chris Cobbs, a veteran journalist with the Canadian Parliamentary press corps who is based in Canada, is the training instructor for the programme which is being sponsored by the World Bank.
