I'm Disappointed In Nana Addo - Ato Forson

Former deputy Minister in the erstwhile Mahama administration has accused President Nana Akufo-Addo of being economical with the true state of Ghana’s economy.

Cassiel Ato Forson said the president in delivering his maiden State of the Nations Address chose to double in politics instead of state the true facts.

“I’m disappointed because if you [Nana Addo] want to paint the true state of the economy, don’t pick and choose” he fumed.

President Akufo-Addo, while reading the address, said among other things: “Ghana’s debt stock now stands at 74% of GDP, after all the previous denials to the contrary,” adding: “As of the beginning of 2009, Ghana’s total debt stock was GHS9.5 billion. By the end of 2016, the debt had ballooned to GHS122 billion.”

But Ato Forson on Asempa FM Tuesday, expressed disappointment in President Akufo-Addo.

In his view, the president decided to “pick and choose” the economic indices that “favoured him politically” just to spite the Mahama-led administration

“He [Akufo-Addo] decided not to talk about Inflation, interest rate and Treasury bill rates because it will not suit his political agenda” he added.

The former deputy Finance Minister also revealed that, given the work done, GDP growth will grow in excess of 7 percent under the Akufo-Addo presidency but he failed to give credit to former President John Mahama.

Cassiel Ato Forson who is also the Member of Parliament for the Ajumako Enyan Essiam Consistency in the Central region maintained that President Akufo-Addo chose to play politics rather than presenting the State of the Nations Address.
