Savelugu Tollbooth Attacker Caged

The Tamale Circuit Court has remanded Abdulai Alhassan Gaba into prison custody for forcibly taking over a revenue collection checkpoint at Savelugu in the Northern Region.

The suspect Abdulai Alhassan Gaba, 32, was charged with possession of firearm without lawful authority but pleaded not guilty.

His accomplices managed to flee the scene before the police got there.

The suspect has been remanded into prison custody to reappear before the court on March 7, 2017.

Information available to DAILY GUIDE indicates that the suspect and his accomplices stormed the revenue collection checkpoint and detained the workers.

The Northern Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, who confirmed the arrest to DAILY GUIDE, said the police were informed that some young men had taken over the revenue collection checkpoint along the Savelugu-Kpanlung Road.

According to him, the police moved to the scene and arrested Abdulai Alhassan Gaba with an Opel taxi cab registered GE 8121-13.

ASP Ebenezer Tetteh disclosed that a search conducted in the vehicle revealed an AK47 assault rifle, two magazines with 32 rounds of ammunition.

A cutlass was found in the engine.

He indicated that the accused could not disclose the source of the weapon and ammunition upon interrogation by the police.

Abubakar Abdulai, Fuseini Abdul Fatawu, Sulemana Adam, Yakubu Abu,and Yakubu Abdul Rahman who were working with Alhassan Gaba and stormed the police station to demand his release were also arrested.
