Hearts record first win in GPL

Accra Hearts of Oak, recorded their first win in the Ghana Premier League over Wa All Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Hearts won the match 2-1, but nearly broke the hearts of their followers, when they allowed their 35th minute leadl cancelled by All Stars in the last quarter of the game.

Having suffered series of humiliating defeats at the hands of All Stars in previous league matches at the same venue, Hearts proved the dominant side this time, as they outplayed their opponents throughout the match.

Hearts scored first in the 35th minute, through Ivorian import Alex Kouassi Alex, after which they created several scoring chances, most of which fell on the path of Patrick Razak, but were wasted.

All Stars managed to snatch the equalizer in the 82nd minute, when Hearts seemed to be cruising to victory with goalkeeper Ben Mensah gifting All Stars a goal, after he failed to pick a feeble cross, for Richard Arthur to tap in the ball.

With another draw beckoning, Hearts resumed their pressure on the visitors, with Kouasi sending in a cross in the vital area for Thomas Abbey to head in for the much needed winner.

Hearts held on to the lead till the end of the match by Cecil Fletcher, giving supporters some relief after drawing in the last three league matches.
