The decision by some executives of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) to prevent delegates from the Brong Ahafo Region to vote in today’s national elections has sparked confusion in the association.
A leading member of the association, who is tipped to win the elections, Mr Daniel Laa, has expressed worry about the internal manipulations and machinations in the association which is preventing his supporters from the Brong Ahafo region from contesting and called on the Electoral Commission to desist from such acts that are likely to break down the association.
He said he is contesting the presidency of the association because he wants to bring a change that will help transform and revive it and help improve the lives of members.
“They want to prevent the delegates from the Brong Ahafo from voting because they think that when they are allowed to vote I will win the elections. I must say that nobody can prevent anybody from voting since it’s our fundamental human rights and I urge all delegates to be firm and strong and go out and vote to elect the best person to run the elections.
The coalition of Concerned Teachers gathered yesterday at the Pentecost Retreat Centre at Gomoa in the central region to vote and elect a new president and some executives who will steer the affairs of the association for the next four years.
It will be recalled that The Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) dismissed its President, Mr Ernest Opoku, and the General Secretary, Mr Raymond Boakye Darkwa, for misappropriating GH¢413,988 belonging to the union.
Consequently, the Vice-President of the coalition, Mr King Ali Awudu, and the Deputy General Secretary, Mr Ako Forson, were asked to step in as President and the General Secretary, respectively.
