Teenage Plumber Fined GH¢600 For Stealing

A Cape Coast Magistrate Court on Thursday sentenced an 18 year-old plumber to a fine of GH¢600 for stealing eight pieces of aluminium door frames valued at GH¢2,340 belonging to China Railway Construction Engineering Group.

The convict, Huseni Osman, who pleaded guilty, would serve two months imprisonment in default.

Police Chief Inspector Christina Sampong, who prosecuted, prayed the Court to impose stiffer punishment on the convict to serve as deterrent, because stealing and petty robberies had become rampant in the Cape Coast Metropolis of late.

Passing judgment, however, the Court presided over by Mrs Gloria Mensah Bonsu took into consideration the fact that the convict was a young first time offender and also did not waste the time of the Court by pleading guilty.

Moreover, she said all the items stolen had been retrieved and handed over to the complainant.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Sampong said the complainant Kingsley Gyau, is a security officer at the China Railway Construction Engineering Group, Ghana office in Cape Coast, while the convict is a plumber and a resident of Ayiko-ayiko, a suburb of Cape Coast.

She said on Saturday February 25, 2016 at about 20:00hours the convict armed himself with a kitchen knife and scaled the fence wall into the warehouse of the Company.

Chief Inspector Sampong said Osman stole eight pieces of aluminium door frames valued at GH¢2,340 and while carrying it away, Mr Gyau who was on duty at the time spotted him and raised the alarm and Osman was apprehended.
