Public Workers Urged To Work Harder

Mr. Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, a Deputy Minister of Information, has urged all public sector workers to try and give out their best despite the low wages that they received. He said the country was going through hard times and commended public workers for their patience with government and urged them to continue to work harder to boost productivity to improve the economy. He therefore pleaded with workers to help government to fix the economy to improve the working conditions and salaries that they deserved. Mr. Okudzeto-Ablakwa was addressing heads of departments in Wa as part of his five days' tour of the region to assess how government's policies and programmes were impacting on the livelihoods of the people. He said government would ensure the implementation of the Savannah Accelerated Development Programme to enable the youth to go into Agriculture to increase productivity. The Deputy Information Minister said the government was poised to deliver on its promise of a better Ghana and that was why it increased the capitation grant and subsidised Agricultural inputs for farmers. He said 10 million dollars would be injected into the environmental sector and urged the various environmental agencies to draw programmes that would benefit the people. Mr. Mahmud Khalid, Upper West Regional Minister, said the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) had contracted a consultant to collate information from all the districts and create a website for them to attract investors to the region. He acknowledged the lack of information flow between the RCC and government departments and agencies in the region and promised to create a platform for regular interactions to promote quality work at workplaces. He advised departmental heads to always collaborate with the RCC in whatever programmes and policies they plan to undertake so that the RCC would be in a better position to monitor them. Mr. Khalid said the Netherlands and Korea governments were interested in providing funds for the intake of water from Black Volta River to Wa to improve the water situation in the municipality. The Regional Minister said 200 communities in the region would be connected to the national electricity grid with Chinese government assistance while rural electrification would be intensified. Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) was also provided funds for the establishment of a Senior High School at Funsi, in the Wa East District and improving the infrastructural development of the Wa Senior/Technical School.
