As part of activities to mark celebrations of the international Women's Day, the Honourable Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Hon. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, launched the Jobs4Women Ghana Summit 2017.

The ceremony which took place at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Center at Teshie was also graced Her Excellency Rev Dr Ocansey.

The dynamic duo, took turns in addressing the crowd about women empowerment and the need to prepare them for various jobs. Dr. Ocansey told the gathering that she was motivated to champion the Jobs4Women summit because she shares the view that “jobs are important for the security of the nation.”

She explained that families unable to provide food find it difficult to enjoy peace at home. “Families that don’t have food on the table can’t proclaim to have peace in the house”, she underscored.

She continued that women, have greater role to play in the society and this could only be achieved if they are given the requisite skills needed. The essence of the Jobs4Women Ghana Summit, according to the renowned speaker is to “ensure that women are able to fill certain positions in our country.” 

“We want to train women and turn them into experts before they get the jobs. Women must be one.  They must come in to complete each other rather than compete against each other”, she advised.

On the part of the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, he joined the public in condemning the recent attack on a female staff at Marwako Fast Foods by her supervisor. According to Hon. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah it is sad the negative incident coincides with the celebration of women around the globe.
 
He added that the SOS Jobs4Women Ghana press launch shows that women are ready and geared up to be bold for change in the work place and getting employed.
 
“As Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, I could not have chosen to be at a better place than this. This place is named after His Excellency Mr. Kofi Anna, a cherished Ghanaian, and former Secretary General of the UN, a man who fought hard for gender parity”, he said.
 
The minister was excited about the determination the ladies demonstrated throughout the session and noted that “as I look around I see the beautiful faces of women from all walks of life. What I find exciting are the young ladies who look very determined to have impact in the changing world of work”.
 
The maiden edition of Jobs4women Ghana Summit would be held on June 10 to 11, 2017. It is under the auspices of the Ghana Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, organised by Nekotech Center of Excellence, in collaboration with Transfer2Transform Canada, Practical Employment Solutions USA, Blue Tongue Australia, TeamTime Company Saudi Arabia, the AU Diasporan African Forum, the Seed Funds Savings and Loans- Ghana, VIVABOX Ghana, the Level Changers of the University of Ghana Legon,  and sponsored by SOS Labour Ghana Ltd, SOS Global Investments and the Holy Land Peace Fellowship of the USA.
 
It will feature employment seminars and workshops, dynamic speakers, panel discussions, breakout sessions, winning resume writing techniques as well as edutainment with a focus on women in technology, interviewing skils, networking training and mentorship.

This is in line with the Ghana Gender Ministry's goals of empowering rural women. For this reason,  companies will be encouraged to look at rural branches to create jobs in those areas for our hardworking rural women.

There will be special rural entrepreneurial programs to help rural women. Nekotech will invite Diasporanbwomen to participate to transfer knowledge and to come back home to seek jobs in Ghana.
