Woman Commits Suicide At Clinic In Eastern Region

Another suicide case has been recorded in the country, this time in Eastern Region.

A middle aged woman whose name was only given as Leticia committed the act on the compound of the Ekye Amanfrom clinic in the Eastern Region.

Citi News’ correspondent, Neil Nii Amatey reported that the woman was found hanging on a rope by a water reservoir at the clinic in the Afram Plains South District.

“According to the security man on duty at the clinic, he suspects that Leticia committed the act last night after paying a visit to her mother who was on admission on the clinic,”.

Although the cause of her act is not yet known, Nii Amartey said some sources close to the situation said the deceased might have taken the decision because her husband allegedly divorced her “after she recovered from a short mental ailment.”

Six suicides in 3 weeks

This suicide brings to six the number of suicide cases recorded in Ghana within the last three weeks.

Similar ones happened at New Tafo in the Eastern Region, the University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Achimota among other places.

A clinical psychologist and suicidologist at the University of Ghana, Dr. Joseph Osafo, has bemoaned the lack of support for mental health related issues in the country.

According to him, this situation has contributed to the increasing trend of suicide in the country.
