Traders Unhappy With Sales After Hearts-Kotoko Match

Petty traders at the Accra Sports Stadium, who deal in replica jerseys and paraphernalia, have complained about low sales during the match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante last Sunday.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, the traders, led by Mrs. Gladys Boateng, said the low sales were due to the fact that, they were unable to provide what the supporters wanted.

She said, due to restrictions from the two clubs, they were unable to get original replica jerseys and paraphernalias from them to attract the needed sales.

"It was a bad market day for us, we couldn't make any profit and it's pathetic for us.

"Most of us came from Kumasi to Accra just for this game and you could imagine the cost of our transportation.

"I made only Ghc 200 for today and that hardly happens when Hearts of Oak play Kotoko.

"Frankly speaking over the years if Kotoko or Hearts win after the game, people buy paraphernalia to jubilate as they head back home, but the situation was different today.

"People requested for Kotoko's current away jersey but none of us had them because the club have failed to provide them. It could have been a good marketing day for the clubs and us.

"We met Kotoko's management team to tell them and they have obviously shown that they are not interested.

"They told us they could only provide them for us if each of us could be able to buy 500 pieces and above. And that is difficult for petty traders.

"This is our work and we are calling on them to help us as we help them too" Mrs Boateng said.
