Mahama Knows NDC Officials ‘Chopped’ Campaign Cash – Kweku Baako

Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Kweku Baako Jnr claims ex-President John Mahama is fully aware that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign funds for the 2016 elections were misappropriated by senior members of the party.

The Former President is said to soon name some members of the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the NDC who prior to the elections collected huge sums of monies from him on several occasions on behalf of the party for campaign purposes.

This follows reports that some members of the FEC have gone round telling people the President failed to resource the party which resulted in the NDC’s defeat at the polls. He has rather been accused of channelling funds directly to Parliamentary candidates and some voluntary groups.

Ex-President Mahama, as the then Flagbearer of the NDC, seeking his second term in office reportedly at the time he was released cash, donated to him by his financiers, to some FEC executives at various stages of the campaign, but they never informed him even once of the billions of cedis businesses donated to the party through them.

Angry NDC members across the country have accused some National and Regional executives of stashing campaign monies, a situation that resulted in the party’s painful defeat. Last week irate NDC supporters in Koforidua held the Kwesi Botchway Committee members ‘hostage’ after they protested the presence of the Regional executive at that meeting, whom they accused of denied the grassroots the needed funds to run the party’s campaign during the last election.

Commenting on the matter on Joy FM’s News File show Saturday, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako said the fact that campaign monies were misappropriated is not lost on the former President.

“It is obvious that some guys who took money from the centre did not apply it for the purpose. You see, when you win an election accountability is forgotten…it is when you’re defeated that the issue of accountability comes to the fore. If they had won with all this massive propaganda and incumbency, nobody would have thought of 1 pesewa being missing. The truth is that they ‘chopped’ the money and the defeat has exposed them. I’m sure the former President (Mahama) knows they’ve chopped the money…he knows.”
