Many Ghanaians including members of the New Patriotic Party from which the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo comes have openly expressed misgivings about the large size of his appointees. The unprecedented whopping 110 appointees is too huge in the opinion of TNF.
Of all the rationalizing arguments in support of the presidents hurriedly appointed nominees a greater number of who have been vetted and given the Letters of Office to work, the weakest TNF finds is that “the end justifies the means.” So we should wait for the end of the 4-year mandate of the NPP led regime before we assess their colossal numbers.
Well, the end may well justify the means in some cases. The end may well also make a mockery of the means. That is why we agree with the Chief of Management Experts, Peter Drucker (PhD) that “the end no longer justifies the means, but the means, the subtle management of relationships are ends in themselves through success is achieved.”
We believe that the president could run and execute his mandate with a lesser number of appointees. Aside these Ministerial appointments, there are quite a number of institutions aiding the work of the President by our Constitutional arrangement. Article 78 (2) in our opinion must serve a reminder on our President aside his promise to protect the public purse.
Notwithstanding our opposition to the gargantuan list of ministers and deputies, we hold that the President violates no law by his huge number of assistants. Our fear however is how this would impact on the national purse as well as the cost in some other ways to Ghana.
We wish the President well and pray that he shall be guided by his own words ‘to protect the public purse from waste’ and vain adventures. We have a nation to build and a country to govern. Electioneering campaign is over. Our thoughts, talks, actions and steps must reflect that we have an onerous duty to perform. God be our help and bless our homeland Ghana.
