Enact Laws To Outlaw Private Vigilante Groups - Samuel Ofosu Ampofo

National Vice Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has condemned the physical assault by a private vigilante group within the ruling New Patriotic Party on the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, George Agyei.

The group called Delta Force attacked the newly-appointed Regional Security Coordinator and forcibly pulled him out of his office last Friday, to register their displeasure with his appointment.

Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo perceived danger ahead of the country if private vigilante groups are not disbanded and rendered dysfunctional.

To him, the government should enact laws that will outlaw the formation of vigilante groups in the country.

Every well-meaning Ghanaian should condemn this act and any way that the Police can take for us to establish, even if it is a law that will be enacted to outlaw all these groups in all political parties; I believe it will be better for us…My worry is that State institutions and State structures, when they’re threatened by private vigilante groups and we can’t do nothing about it; there’s a danger ahead of us.”

Also addressing the issue on Kokrokoo, the Central Regional Chairman of the party, Allotey Jacobs called on the government to allow justice to take its course on the vigilante group for perpetrate such violence.

He also found the actions by vigilante groups disturbing and appealed to appropriate authorities to put a check on the groups and further ensure they're rendered powerless.
