Referee William Agbovi is impressed with the level of officiating in this season’s Ghana Premier League.

The FIFA referee is satisfied with the performance of his colleagues in the domestic top-flight.

Referees in the Ghana Premier League have come under intense scrutiny following the recent life-time ban on Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey who is alleged to have been involved in a match manipulation after awarding a dubious penalty against Senegal in a World Cup qualifier with South Africa.

Class one referee Samuel Sukah has become the center of controversy in the last two weeks after a penalty decision against Kotoko in the Super clash match with Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Agbovi who remains one of Ghana’s best referees says he has been impressed with officiating so far after eight matches in the Ghana Premier League.

“So far we have played eight matches and I must say I am impressed with the level of officiating, there has been some review including myself, I have been reviewed by the Ghana FA,” he told Happy FM.

“But the performance of referee’s to my estimation has been very good and we hope it continues till the end of the season.”

Meanwhile the Ghana Football Association review panel have suspended referee Justice Adu Poku for the rest of the season for awarding a dubious penalty to WAFA in a League match against Tema Youth.
