Minority, Majority Disagree Over Day To Recess

The Minority in Parliament on Friday took exception to the new date on which the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic will rise as presented by Majority Leader Osei-Kyei Mensa-Bonsu.

The Suame Constituency Member of Parliament, who is also Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, had announced that the 12th week of business will end on Friday, April 7.

But Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu minced no words in his disagreement, saying: “We cannot travel beyond Wednesday”. According to the Tamale South MP, the Appointments Committee has agreed to sit on Monday and Tuesday and so Wednesday can be used to approve the report on the deputy ministerial nominees who will be vetted.

He explained that by the business statement as presented by the Majority Leader, Thursday and Friday would be dedicated for the Committee’s report, discussions they can hold on Wednesday.

The Minority Leader expressed satisfaction in the work of the Committee.

He also promised the cooperation of his side in getting the 2017 budget statement approved on Friday, March 31.

“Today, whatever it takes…we will give it our fullest attention and cooperation.”
