Ayariga Wants Another Opportunity To Apologise – Kyei Mensah Bonsu

Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has revealed that Member of Parliament for Bawku Central wants another opportunity to apologise to Parliament for his behaviour on the floor on Thursday.

Mahama Ayariga flared up after he was found guilty of contempt by a report of an investigation into a bribery allegation against Chair of the Appointment Committee.

The Committee after its investigations said the MP did not have enough evidence to back the claims he had made and recommended that he is made to apologise and reprimanded if Parliament deemed it fit.

Mr Ayariga was asked by the Speaker, Mike Ocquaye, to apologise. The Bawku Central MP did so but half-heartedly.

But Mr Ayariga had reservations about the Committees’ work. He said under Order 191 which formed the basis upon which the Joe Ghartey Committee was formed, he did not think that the committee had the powers to make findings of contempt against him.

"Mr Speaker if you say I should apologise, I apologise," he said half-heartedly.

His response incensed the Speaker who said the issue will be further addressed if Parliament sits.
