The Volta Region Chapter of the Coalition of the Right to Information Ghana, has urged Parliament to scrutinize and expedite action on the passage of the Right to Information Bill when it comes before it. The Coalition made the call in a statement at the end of a workshop on the proposed bill in Ho. The statement signed by its Focal Person, Mr Tenasu Kofi Gbedemah urged Parliament to rid the bill of any "defects which would vitiate its application." It suggested that private bodies whose activities affect human rights or are publicly funded should be subject of the legislation. The Coalition said that the bill should strengthen freedom of expression and the right to information if it is to be "a vital weapon against corruption." It said that the bill should be backed by proper record keeping at the ministries, departments and agencies because "Proper records keeping were the building blocks for the realization of the right to information legislation in Ghana."
