Efforts Made To Restore Power Nationwide - GRIDCO

The general public is asked to alert the energy providers to restore their power after yesterday's, Wednesday, May 4, blackout.

The entire nation was thrown into total darkness in the late hours of the day when the rains began to fall.

It's however unknown the cause of the power cut nationwide but according to the Director of System Operations at GRIDCO, Mark Baah; the blackout occurred as a result of some storms that hit the eastern part of the country.

Speaking in an interview with host of Peace FM's flagship programme 'Kokrokoo' Kwami Sefa Kayi, Mr. Baah expressed worry over the power cut saying the storms affected the power system which ended up plunging the nation into hours of darkness.

He noted that the power is to be restored by 10 am early today but so far it's only a little above 50% of the entire country has had their power back on.

“There were some storms at the Eastern part – Volta Region. We’re doing our investigations but for now, we want to restore power to the whole country before we do a detailed research into what happened. Because of what happened, several parts of the country experienced total blackout. So, immediately, the engineers gathered to restore the power. We’re making frantic efforts but when it was around 1:30 am, we were able to restore power to many parts of the country and then about 1:40, the system again went down,” he said.

He assured electricity users that the engineers are working hard to rectify the problem.
