Women Will Be Economically Empowered - Gender Minister

Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, has said government is determined to empower women through the various policy interventions being rolled out.

She said it is the intension of government to involve women in rural settings and empower them with ventures that can speed up and improve livelihoods.

The Sector Minister said this during a working visit to the Upper East Region.

Madam Djaba is there to interact with women groups in the region and seek ways to ensure their economic empowerment.

She said government recognizes the important role women play in the upkeep of families and the socio-economic development of the country adding that in spite of this significant role, many women are the deprived lot in the society.

Madam Djaba said every slated intervention for the development of women would be executed as expected.

She cited the ‘one-village-one dam’, ‘the One-Constituency-1million dollar’, ‘the one-District–One- Factory project’ and the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) as some of the interventions that would target more women for support.

Madam Djaba said the programmes would be implemented devoid of politics and appealed to them to form groups to enable them benefit from the programmes.
