Let’s Promote Our Universities; Don’t Dwell Too Much On The Negatives - UG VC To Media

Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu at the press briefing has urged the media to help in projecting the positive activities of universities.

According to him, the media in Ghana always dwell on the negative happenings in the universities as bad news sells, but always overlook the positives because they don’t make news.

“But you have to rather look at the positives in order to ‘sell’ our universities abroad because all that the foreigners read about our universities on the websites are about the negatives and this stops the international students from coming to Ghana,” he lamented.

He stressed that “we don’t promote our own; the news which are reported about our universities affect us a lot because when you ask the international students to come, they refuse, but meanwhile, bad things happen at every university around the globe.”

Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu asserted that the international media always protect their universities; urging that it should not be always that the Ghanaian media will wash the dirty linen of the country’s universities in public.

“I will plead with the media to try to publish the positive activities of the universities in addition to the bad ones,” he urged.
